The Concern

I have buck teeth that aren't always visible, but when I'm relaxed, they become noticeable. Candid photos often highlighted this, making me self-conscious. When I go to the gym, I have to ensure I don't lose too much facial fat, as the protrusion becomes more prominent. This issue constantly played on my mind.

Mustache Woes

As a 30 year old man, my mustache didn’t do much to cover my front teeth. It was sparse, making the protrusion more obvious, especially when I smiled.

Failed Alternatives

I tried various smile correction products from Amazon, but they didn’t help. I thought lowering my front lip might cover my teeth, but it wasn’t effective. Occasionally, people would tease me about my "squirrel teeth," which prompted me to seek a better solution.

Exploring Cosmetic Options

I researched potential solutions but found little online. Eventually, I consulted a cosmetologist who suggested non-surgical options like Botox and fillers. The doctor recommended adding volume to my upper lip corners with fillers and using Botox on the Cupid's bow. The Botox would relax the muscles, causing a lowering effect on the upper lip, thus reducing the appearance of protruding teeth.

The Procedure

I agreed to the procedure. The doctor explained that Botox would take a day or two to show results, while the effects of the fillers were immediate.

Initial Results

After 3-4 days, I felt the numbing effect of the Botox. While I noticed some improvement, it wasn’t as significant as I’d hoped. After two weeks, the results were just okay. Unfortunately, this was only a short-term solution.

Disappointment with Longevity

Less than two months later, my teeth were as visible as before. The Botox wore off, and the fillers subsided quickly due to facial movements. As someone from a middle-class background, frequent treatments were financially unsustainable.

Considering Surgery

The doctor admitted that he was unsure about surgical options (excluding dental surgery) and their effectiveness. While I appreciated his honesty, it was disappointing to have limited options.

Final Thoughts

As the non-surgical methods proved inconsistent, I began considering surgery as a last resort. However, surgery involves downtime, convincing my parents, taking leave from work, and significant costs. Despite these challenges, I explored maxillofacial surgery and found it resolved my concerns. I will share my detailed experience in the future.
